The ancestor is a small, cute, shaggy and shy figure who lives behind the tiled stove in the Moominhouse's parlor. He only appears at night when the others are asleep. Moomintroll and the Ancestor meet for the first time in the story Troll Winter. Moomintroll tries to talk to the Ancestor, but the Ancestor doesn't say a word.
