In Arabia's winter 2021 seasonal set, Moomintroll and his friends watch the Snow Horse disappear into the horizon. The seasonal set "Moonlight in the Snow" continues the story from Tove Jansson's Troll Winter (1957) and depicts the wonderful winter that Moomintroll experiences for the first time in his life. The set consists of a mug, a bowl, mini mugs and coffee spoons.
Tove Jansson's work Troll Winter has already inspired 16 seasonal mugs that Arabia has produced since 2006. For the seasonal set, Arabia's illustrator Tove Slotte has compiled illustrations from Tove Jansson's book and created a new whole from them. The 2021 winter set shows both the wonderful and the harsh side of winter. The characters that appear in the story, such as the Snow Horse and the Ice Maiden, make the events of winter significant.
Moonlight awakens Moomintroll
Tove Jansson was able to depict the weather and seasons discreetly using only lines. In the Moonshine in the Snow set motif, there is a skillful use of lines that brings the mood of the story to life. The blue-colored mug adds a striking color to the captivating story.
The fabulous Moonlight in the Snow series takes the viewer to the beginning of Tove Jansson's work Troll Winter, where the moonlight awakened Moomintroll. The moon shone in through the window and finally straight into Moomintroll's face. Moomintroll woke up and couldn't go back to sleep. Usually Moomin sleeps through the winter, so Moomintroll will experience and see new, unprecedented things when he is awake all winter. The mug's motif is the first illustration in the Troll Winter work, a night of moonlight.
On the other side of the mug, Moomintroll has wrapped himself in his bathrobe. He has met his old friend, Little My, and a new friend, Too-ticki, with whom he is spending the winter. He has found his bathrobe in the bathhouse wardrobe, and wears it until his winter coat is a little thicker. Moomintroll, Little My and Too-ticki are standing on the seashore watching the Snow Horse who has come to life and set off far away at full gallop.
